Map of Section 4 on Columbus Landings, San Salvador Bahamas

Columbus Landings - Section 4

Section 4 encompasses the entire southwestern tip of San Salvador and is the most established residential area within Columbus Landings. It has become especially popular with second-home owners looking for peace, privacy, and spectacular coastal scenery.

One of the great advantages of this area is that it offers both west, south and east coast living. The west side of Sandy Point is generally calmer with ever-changing shades of turquoise, while the east side faces beautiful French Bay, where the Atlantic Ocean provides refreshing breezes.

Section 4 is home to three beautiful beaches. Grotto Beach is a favorite among residents and visitors alike. A pavilion with picnic tables and a hammock makes it the perfect place to relax, while the wide sandy beach is protected by a dramatic rock wall on its eastern side, creating a peaceful and sheltered setting.

From Grotto Beach, you can actually walk all the way around the southern tip of the island. The trail begins across a rocky shoreline before opening onto long stretches of pristine beach, passing several beautiful beachfront homes along the way. At the very southern tip lies Shifting Sands Beach, named for the constantly changing beach formation created by the waves and tides.

One of Section 4's hidden treasures is the elevated ridge running through the center of Sandy Point. Several homesites are located on this ridge, offering panoramic views toward both the Caribbean Sea and French Bay, the third beach. These elevated lots also enjoy cooling sea breezes that make outdoor living especially comfortable throughout the year.

The road system forms a network of dirt roads throughout the subdivision, making it easy to explore every corner of Sandy Point.

History enthusiasts will enjoy visiting Dripping Stone, a fascinating limestone cave where the Lucayan Indians are believed to have lived centuries ago. The area also contains an old well and several additional caves, some of which are home to small colonies of bats.

Life in Section 4 is wonderfully quiet with only around 35 second homes, including a few condos. The Condos, originally built as six buildings containing three condominium units each, now features less owners as several have since been combined into larger residences. There are 22 local homes near Queens Highway but no commercial buildings.

One of the things second home owners appreciate most about Section 4 is its strong sense of community. Neighbors genuinely look out for one another, and many lifelong friendships have developed among second-home owners. Several second home owners keep boats on the island and frequently invite friends and neighbors on fishing trips or excursions. Fishing around San Salvador is exceptional, whether you're trolling offshore or casting along the reefs.

Utilities are available on the coastline of the subdivision. Electricity currently serves the west side of Sandy Point and much of the southern area, while the east side is still off-grid. Owners in that area enjoy self-sufficient island living using solar power.

The roads throughout Section 4 are unpaved and not maintaned by the developer. Second home owners ocationally pay for fill and help get the worse potholes filled in. There might be large puddles after heavy rain. While any vehicle can usually manage under normal conditions, a pickup truck or a Jeep is certainly an advantage and makes getting around more enjoyable.

There are still many beautiful vacant lots available throughout Section 4. Beachfront and hilltop and everything in between. Some are listed with real estate agencies, while others are privately owned and may also be available for purchase. If there is a particular lot that interests you, I would be happy to help determine whether it is available. Sometimes that requires a little research, but I'm always happy to point buyers in the right direction.

💬 Unni's Local Tip

"Section 4 is home to the largest number of second-home owners in Columbus Landings, creating a warm, welcoming, and well-established community. It is also blessed with some of San Salvador's most beautiful beaches. Grotto Beach, with its charming beach pavilion, is a favorite gathering place for residents and visitors alike. At the southern tip of the island, Shifting Sands Beach offers a spectacular stretch of wide, powder-soft sand and breathtaking ocean views. Because currents from the west and south sides of the island converge here, swimmers should be aware that rip currents can occasionally occur, especially when the sea is rough."
